Matthew Orszulak Obituary

Matthew James Orszulak, 43, of Lafayette, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 28, 2025. He was born on May 23, 1982 to Jacqueline (Jones) Orszulak and the late John Joseph Orszulak Jr. After graduating from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 2001, Matthew worked in food service for several places, including Arni's, Olive Garden, and Creasy Springs. He had most recently spent over ten years working in food service for IU Arnett Hospital. Matthew loved time that was spent with his friends and family, and he had a very special place in the hearts of everyone that knew him. He also enjoyed riding his jet ski, spending time at the family lake cottage, and attending boat shows and car shows. More than anything, Matthew was very eco-friendly, and passionate about recycling. He strived to make places that he worked more conscientious about protecting the environment. In addition to his mother, Jackie Orszulak, Matthew is survived by his brother, John J. Orszulak III; aunts, Jennifer (Jeff) Windler, Jeannine (Randy) Fekete, and Janelle (Dan) Dombrowsky; uncles, Dr. J. Jeffrey (Pam) Jones, John (Annette) Jones, Joel Jones, and Jay Jones; and cousins, Emily (Tyrel) Kirk, Allison (Joe) Guljas, Kathryn (Ryan) Stubleski, Nick Fekete, Nathan (Crystal) Fekete, Dr. J. Alex (Abby) Jones, Alexa Jones, James (Alex) Jones, Benjamin (Lindsay) Kimmell, Noah Dombrowsky, Samuel (Paije) Dombrowsky, Aimee (Chad) Orszulak-Rusboldt, Casey (Kevin) Clay, and Kelly (Sam) Van Duyne. Matthew also leaves his adored cat, Kathleen, to cherish his memory. In addition to his father, John Joseph Orszulak Jr., Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Martha and Everett Dunfee; and maternal grandparents, James and Lucille Jones. Visitation will be held at Hippensteel Funeral Home on Monday, July 7th from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, July 8th at 10 a.m. Matthew will then be laid to rest at The Preserves at Spring Vale Cemetery in Lafayette. I've known Matt for about 10 years. I find it ironic that he was so eco friendly that he would make sure there were no lights on in any rooms that weren't being used yet he effortlessly lit up every room he went into with his heart and personality. I used to tell him and I truly believe that he was the most interesting man in the world. To say he will be missed is a huge understament and I know man about recycling then the average man because of him.

I knew Matt for going on 10 years and there was never a dull moment when he was around. It's ironic that he was so adamant about saving energy that he turned lights off in any room that didn't need to have light on but still managed to light up every room he was in with his heart and personality. I always told him and I truly believed that he was the most interesting man in the world. He is irreplaceable and I'm glad to have known him as long as I did.

I worked with Matt for 2 years at IU Health, he was one of the best and most dedicated employees I´ve ever worked with. I loved hearing about his weekends spent on the jetski or on the madam carroll. I always tried to save his box of recycling in my office for him on his days off so it wouldn´t get thrown away by accident. Matt will truly be missed, he was one of a kind.

Matt was such a sweet soul. He would always stop to say hello and tell me about his accomplishments and excitement of purchasing a Tesla and his love of cruising the lakes on his jet ski. He had me looking for ground so he could build a new house one day. Sending deepest sympathy to his family and food service co-workers. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Hi! My name is Lindsay and I worked with Matt at IU Health from September 2019 to May 2022 while I was a student at Purdue University. Matt was a hard and dedicated worker every day. He loved to talk to me about boats/cars, the jetski, and his dream of getting a Tesla which I know he accomplished. It was pleasure to call Matt not only a co-worker but a friend! He was always appreciative of me making him salmon on the grill for his meal at work. Lots of laughs with him! My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time.
