Charles Starr Obituary

Charles E. Starr, 95, of West Alexandria and formerly of the Highland County area, passed away Monday afternoon, Aug. 17, 2015, at his daughter's home.

He was born May 14, 1920, in Waynesville, the son of the late Clark and Daisy (Hammer) Starr. He was a longtime farmer and was a teacher in the Clinton-Massie school system for 26 years. He was a member of the St. Mary's Episcopal Church, was a member of the Highland Masonic Lodge #38, the Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati, was the Past Master of the Harveysburg Masonic Lodge #312 and was the Past Patron of the Warren Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #224. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Joe Bruce of West Alexandria; three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Dolores Starr of Celina, James and MaryLou Starr of Houston, Texas, and Charles and Ann Louise Starr of New Vienna; 11 grandchildren, William (Michelle) Starr of New Knoxville, Ohio, Jennifer (Craig) Fisher of Milford, Indiana, Anne (Aaron) Dunn of Van Wert, David Starr of Botkins, Katherine Mahaffey of Wilmington, Mike (Michelle) Mahaffey of Mishawaka, Indiana, Daniel (Sarah) Starr and Brian Starr, both of Houston, TX, Laura (Christopher) Duve of Colorado, and Justin and Mariah Starr of New Vienna; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Marjorie K. (Kellegrew) Starr, on Oct. 28, 2013; six brothers, Harry, Lester, Raymond, Clark, John and Lawrence Starr; and three sisters, Winifred Prendergast, Elizabeth Rich and Helen Secrest.

In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated. Memorial services including Scottish Rite Ring Services will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 11 at the St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Hillsboro. Rev. Judi Wiley will be the Celebrant. Burial with military honors presented by the Wilmington Post 49 Honor Guard will be held at the Clinton Memory Gardens at 9 a.m. that morning. The family will receive friends following services at Lacy Hall.

My condolences to the Starr family. Mr. Starr was a teacher at CM when I was there in the 70's and also when my aunts were there in the 60's. He was a kind, funny, intelligent educator that has been missed even after graduation! Know that he is making somebody smile in a better place.
