Johnny L. Scott, 80, of Wilmington, passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 1, 2016 at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties in Franklin, Ohio.
He was born July 24, 1936 in Wilmington, a son of the late Chacy Scott and Elva Ward Scott.
Johnny retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service, where he was a member of the Special Forces Green Berets with six tours in Vietnam. He was an avid explorer of the world, with stops in Germany, Turkey to Central and South America and settling in Panama, where he spent 17 years as a Military Customs Officer.
Upon returning to Wilmington, he worked another 12 years in security at Airborne. He was a member of the Wilmington VFW and a graduate with the Wilmington High School Class of 1954.
Those who knew him, knew him as a kind and generous man, who never hesitated to help another person, family or stranger alike.
Surviving are a son, Johnny J. (Nickelle) Scott of Wilmington; a daughter, Tonya Scott; granddaughter, Paisley Scott, several grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine (Harry) Gilham of Newark, Ohio, and Imogene (James) Smith of Jeffersonville, Ohio; two brothers, Tommy (Sandra) Scott of Pickerington, Ohio, and Gary Scott of Atlanta, Georgia; several nieces and nephews; and best friend and caregiver, Julio Chong.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Jean Scott; second wife, Cecilia Scott; two sons, Antonio Scott and Gregory P. Scott; three brothers, Wayne "Bucky" Scott, Farrell Scott, and Chacy Scott Jr.; and a sister, Judith Ann Ward.
The service will be held at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 W. Locust St. in Wilmington, on Saturday, Oct. 8 at noon. The interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Wilmington. The Wilmington American Legion Post 49 Memorial Squad will accord full military honors.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m.
