Roger A. Boatman, 72, of Wilmington, and originally from Portsmouth, died on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Christ Hospital. His wife, Sharon Lyons Boatman, survives. They were married on March 28, 1964.
Mr. Boatman was born on Jan. 6, 1943, a son of the late Herman and Bessie Purdy Boatman.
Mr. Boatman retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol on April 18, 1996 after 29 years as a communications technician.
He was a member of the Wilmington Senior Citizens, the New Vienna Senior Citizens, and the Clinton County Farmers and Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Boatman is survived by his children, Karen, Jeffery and Buffy; his grandchildren, Shelby and Molly; a brother, Howard (Cheryl) Boatman; and a special sister, Carol Prine Fenner.
The funeral service will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 7 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South St. in Wilmington, with Pastor Kelly D. McInerney officiating. The interment will be in the Clinton County Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6 at the funeral home.

Going to miss Roger's phone calls. Am glad Mom got to talk to him. Was a good family friend and member of the Ohio State Patrol family. He will be in good company with Fred Dupuis and Dwight Carey - my dad and stepdad. Love and hugs to the family.
