Born in Elmira, New York, Jim was the eldest son of Rowena and Wilfred Price. He spent many happy summers in upstate New York attending camp at Tanager Lodge. He attended Deerfield Academy and was graduated from Cornell University with a Civil Engineering degree. He was a U.S. Army veteran. After retirement from a successful work career which ultimately brought him to Texas as President of Schlegel Lining Technology, Jim opened Montgomery County Golf Center, a small family oriented nine-hole golf course near Conroe, Texas, which he and Jan operated until 2004.
From his parents, Jim inherited a legacy of purposeful service to others. Upon retiring a second time, Jim became involved in the Prison Ministries mentoring program in the Huntsville Prison System in which he participated for many years. He also mentored disadvantaged high school students in the Houston School District. He was a member of The Woodlands Christian Church for over 20 years and served as an Elder.
He loved the outdoors, a wood burning fire, Presbyterian hymns, Sudoku puzzles, and all things chocolate. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Jim lived a full, happy life and will be remembered by all who loved him for his guidance, his infectious laugh, and his delightful sense of humor.
A memorial service for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 3, 2018 at The Woodlands Christian Church, 1202 North Millbend, The Woodlands, TX 77380. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Capabilities, Inc., an organization supporting people with disabilities, founded by Jim's father, Wilfred Price, in 1955, at: Capabilities, Inc., 1149 Sullivan Street, Elmira, New York 14901; or The Woodlands Christian Church.
