Alphonse U. Marcotte

HYDE PARK - Alphonse U. Marcotte passed away at home on February 4, 2021, after a short illness. He was born in Manville, Rhode Island, on October 13, 1932, the son of Yvette Lariviere and Alphonse Marcotte.

Al was a graduate of Assumption Prep School in Worchester, Mass, and Graduated with honors from Brown University in RI, with a BS Degree. Upon graduation, Al became an electrical engineer at IBM. He worked at the Kingston Plant and the Poughkeepsie Plant as a senior engineer and later a department manager. Al retired after 32 years of service.
In Poughkeepsie, Al met his mate for life, Mary Ellin Curtin. On October 11, 1958, they were married at a nuptial mass at St Patrick's Church in Newburgh, NY. After their honeymoon in Florida, they arrived at their new house on Roosevelt Road, Hyde Park, NY where they resided for the next 68 years.

In 1959, they had their first child, followed by four more in the next eight years. Al is survived by his wife, 5 children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Richard and Colleen reside in Bristol RI with their children Daniel and Gregory. Robert resides in Hyde Park, NY. His two sons, James and partner Shaun live in Providence, RI and Michael with partner Nina and two children live in Kingston, NY. William and Lillian reside in Monroe NY with their children Matthew and Michael. Timothy resides in NYC. Ellen and William Sherry live in Clifton Park NY with their daughter, Meagan. Ryan Sherry resides in Providence RI. Tom and Sue reside in Tivoli, NY with their children Jack and Anna. Al is survived by two brothers, Robert and Bernard. They reside in Enfield, CT and Pittsfield, Mass.

Al enjoyed traveling with Mary especially on tours around the United States and the world. Al was involved in The Regina Coeli Church and School. He enjoyed working Thursday night Bingo. Al was a charter member of the Swim and Tennis Club in Hyde Park and an avid fan of the Marist Basketball teams and Red Fox Club. Al was also a member of CLS, a lifetime learning association, with Marist College and he gave back to the area by volunteering for Dutchess County Tourism for many years.

Al was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family was the most precious thing in his life.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, February 6, at Regina Coeli Catholic Church, 2 Harvey St., Hyde Park. Burial followed in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. In place of flowers, please make donations to Regina Coeli Church, 2 Harvey St., Hyde Park.
