"Geno" captained ENCHANTA for me ten seasons go. I had never met nor do I expect to encounter anyone with more courage. Why waste words? This is what loss feels like. Domenic Cocchia,

It's what it is.
When he and I worked together, Gene said this whenever he encountered an unexpected and significant challenge. He would never complain; he would collect himself, imagine a solution, and carry on.
Missing you today Gene and trying to take the lesson.

So sorry to see Gene's life cut so short at such a young age. When I visited his parents uncle Gene and Terry they always spoke to me about Gene's adventure stories which I enjoyed. May your winds be fair and your sea's calm.

Geno. I miss you buddy! Words are hard here. You just meant so much, to so many people. I'm so grateful for the miles we sailed together, the times we had. Stories will be told and they will live on! Michelle and Henry, my deepest condolences. I wish I had the chance to meet you. Henry, your Dad is one of a kind. Hardest working, always helpful to everyone. Fair winds forever, my friend...

My heartfelt condolences to Michelle, Henry, and all of Gene's family and friends on their loss. I met Gene many years ago in Sag Harbor and would always enjoy being around him. He was one of the most positive, upbeat, resourceful, intelligent people that I have ever met. When my son was killed in Iraq he was one of the first people to offer me sympathy and words of hope and for that he will always be in my heart. He was an asset to the community and a rock to his family and will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace my friend....fair winds and following seas.

I met Gene in 2000 in the waterfront wilderness of Bellhaven, NC while each of us were on northbound yacht deliveries. He was into his 2nd year as captain aboard Red Head, a 65' tramp steamer owned then by his now long time employer Billy Joel. On that first encounter and ever since we have traded sea stories as our paths crossed over the years in ports from Nantucket to Miami. Gene was a very talented individual whose expertise & accomplishments far surpassed the title of Boat Captain. He will be missed greatly.
