Gabriel Saback Obituary

LINCOLN - Gabriel "Gabe" Saback, 84, of Lincoln died peacefully Sunday, December 6, 2015 after a valiant battle with a long illness.
Born and raised in Pawtucket, he was the only and much anticipated son of the late Joseph and Emily (Ayick) Saback. He was married to the late Theresa (Marcil) Saback and had lived in Lincoln for the past 53 years.
His life experiences were rich and varied. As a teen, he worked on a farm to help support his family. At 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served while stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War. Upon returning from Okinawa, he began his own construction and painting business - The Rainbow Construction Company. Gabe later decided to combine his passions for cooking and business and opened his own restaurant - The Hi-Fi Diner on Mineral Spring Avenue in Pawtucket - which he operated successfully for many years alongside his father's grocery shop - Saback's Variety Store.
Gabe had a lifelong passion for politics. He served at the Rhode Island State House as a Clerk for the Senate Labor Committee, and had been a proud member of the Town of Lincoln's Democratic Committee. Gabe was also an active and dedicated member of the American Legion and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He was always proud of his time served in the U.S. Military and, upon his return from the Korean War, he joined the Red Devil's Band preforming and marching in parades. In later years, he enjoyed volunteering to play his bugle at various military memorial ceremonies and Veterans Day celebrations.
Gabe was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Antiochian Orthodox Church in Pawtucket, where as a young boy, he proudly served as an altar boy and later, as a longtime member of the Church's Men's Society. He was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge.
Gabe was an extremely passionate man who, despite being plagued by ill health and mobility issues, truly lived his life to the fullest. He was dedicated to not just his family but to his extended family and multitude of friends - many of whom were lifelong friends.
Gabe is survived by his beloved daughter, Brenda Lee (Saback) Bosko of Lincoln; his three stepsons, Omer and Henry Pierce, both of Cape Canaveral, FL, and Marshall Pierce of Pawtucket; his grandchildren, Stephanie Bosko of Milford, NH, Andrew Bosko and Melissa Soares of Cumberland, and Cory Bosko and Amie-Lynn Nickerson of Lincoln; and his adored great grandchildren, Emily Mae Paul and Damon Gabriel Bosko. Gabe is also survived by his sisters, Virginia Trahan of Smithfield, Victoria Hammond of Pawtucket, and Loris Pimental of Seekonk, MA; and many loved nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Kasiulewicz.
His services will be held Friday, December 11 at 10 A.M. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial, with military honors, will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday 5-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gabe's memory to St. Mary's Antiochian Orthodox Church, 249 High Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860 would be appreciated.
