George Charette

CHEPACHET - George R. Charette, 81, of Chepachet, died January 15, 2025 in his home. He was the husband of Therese F. (Therien) Charette, whom he

married June 8,

1963. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late George L. and Yvette E. (Bacon) Charette.

George was a 1962 graduate of Woonsocket High School. In his youth, he worked as a paper boy, and was an altar server at St. Joseph's Church. George owned GRC Construction for many years, and was a member of the RI Construction Union #330. He also operated The Road House Farm for several years. He served many years on the Glocester Planning and Economic Development Committees, as well as the Glocester Land Trust. George played hockey for many years, and served as president of the RI Old Timers hockey league. He loved animals, especially his cat, Mittens. If you met George, you had to be prepared for a long conversation - he loved to talk to anyone.

Besides his wife, Therese, he leaves their daughters, Jo-Ann Fiore of Manville, Tracy Rague and her husband, Kurt of Gilmanton Ironworks, NH, and Stephanie Trowbridge of Chepachet, and her former husband, William; his sisters, Mary Ann Charette Joyal of North Smithfield and Carol Ann Charette of Woonsocket; eight grandchildren, Alyssa Hanson and her husband, Charles, Samantha Fiore, Peter Fiore, Adam Rague, Hope Trowbridge, Anthony Fiore, Brandon Rague, and Grace Trowbridge; two great grandsons, Caleb and Owen Hanson; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard A. Charette.

His funeral will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 8:30 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 1200 Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hotel for Homeless Dogs, Berkeley Oval, 44 Martin St., Cumberland, RI 02864 or the Woonsocket Cat Sanctuary, 266 Mendon Rd., Woonsocket, RI 02895.
