Again my condolences to the Duffy family. I hope the nice memories everyone has posted are some comfort to you. I remember George well---it was always the full name, George Patrick Duffy. Another saying of his was "It's in the well!" when a player would make a free throw in Basketball. I crossed paths with him frequently when I worked for the Journal.

My condolences to the Duffy family. We crossed paths when I covered high school sports for the Journal and also the re-incarnation of the Steamroller in the early '60's. I remember him as a bundle of energy and for always saying he lived off the interest on what he owed. I always liked that expression. My condolences to the Duffy family.

To the Duffy family: my sincere condolences on the passing of George Patrick. He was a RI sports icon who certainly made his community a better place during his long and distinguished career. I fondly remember him relating the story of his attending as a young boy Steamroller games in 1928 when the team won the NFL championship playing in the Cycledrome off North Main St. May he rest in peace.

Fondly recall him not just as the voice of the Rhode Island Reds but as the nice man who helped out a ten year old boy who was trying to help out an even younger girl learn to bowl. Even as a kid I knew who he was, and his kindness made me appreciate what he was made of. A very good man who had avery full and rewarding life.
