Gerald Morisseau Obituary

Gerald P.

Morisseau

NARRAGANSETT - Gerald P. Morisseau, "Gerry", 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13th, 2024 with family by his side. Born in Woonsocket, RI on November 5, 1942 to the late Herv and Constance (Neveu) Morisseau, Gerry was the oldest of seven siblings. After living much of his life in Woonsocket, Gerry spent his later years in Narragansett, RI. He will be remembered for his devotion to family, deep faith, and enduring love for his wife, Eleanor who predeceased him.

Gerry was a graduate of Woonsocket High School ('59) and Providence College ('65), where he earned both his Bachelor and Masters degrees in education and administration. He later went on to be the Assistant Director of Admissions at Providence College. Gerry then spent years teaching math in the Cumberland School District and ended his career serving in administration in the same district. He also worked as the beach manager at Sand Hill Cove, as well as cooking at Perry's kitchen and selling insurance.

Beginning each morning with prayers and attending daily mass for years, Gerry was unwavering in his faith and values. He was a generous man who volunteered his time with Meals on Wheels, American Red Cross Disaster Relief, and local medical transport services. He also gave back to the community as chairman of the Woonsocket School Committee, as well as the Woonsocket Democratic City Committee. Gerry was also a member of the 118th Military Police Battalion for the National Guard where he served his community and his country.

Gerry's lifelong passion was sports. He himself was a talented athlete and then went on to coach and officiate for several sports and teams over the years. In addition, Gerry was an avid fan. Supporting the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, college football and basketball, and many other sports, he always had a game on and would always be ready to talk about the latest highlights and statistics.

In his life, Gerry was happiest with Eleanor, his Sweetheart. Together they enjoyed attending Patriots games, traveling the world most notably to France and St. Maarten, having a good party, and cooking for their next family gathering. Gerry spent his last years caring for Eleanor in their home together. He was a loyal husband and loving father who was constantly working to provide for his family. Gerry leaves behind his children, Barbara Anne Morisseau, Jim Morisseau, and Ron (Denise) Treat, grandchildren Emily Morisseau, Callan Morisseau, Summer (Nick) Hedge, Serena Schmitt, Sara Treat, and Brandon Treat, and great granddaughter Blake Morisseau. He also leaves behind his sister Jeanne (Morisseau) Burns and brothers John (Paula), Peter (Anne), and Marc (Sylvia) Morisseau, and Neil (Ellen) Wood. He is predeceased by his brother Roger Morisseau. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Gerry's quick wit, warm heart, and steady presence will be greatly missed. His memory will live on in the minds and hearts of those he leaves behind.

His funeral will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 9AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Agatha's Church, 34 Joffre Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone. Visitation with the family will be held Friday from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christian Brothers Center, 635 Ocean Rd., Narragansett, RI 02882 or HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.

I had the pleasure of meeting Gerald as his private Caregiver. He was always full of life, liked to laugh and he loved his family and friends very deeply. I will miss him and think of him often. Until we meet again Gerry. My sincere condolences. Rhonda
