Janet L. Bernier

EAST PROVIDENCE - Janet L. (Ford) Bernier, 87, of East Providence, formerly of Harrisville, died May 10, 2021 in Tockwotton on the Waterfront. She was the wife of the late Hervé Bernier, who died in 2005. Born in Laconia, NH, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Lucille (Stickney) Ford.

Janet was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. She met her husband while they were stationed at Edwards Air Force Base, where she was secretary to the Base Commanding General. Janet was a secretary for Woonsocket High School for many years, and had previously worked for the Woonsocket Police Department. She enjoyed gardening, and had a beautiful backyard with butterfly, flower, and vegetable gardens. Janet was an insatiable reader, and Scrabble whiz.

She leaves her children, Air Force retired Master Sergeant Michael Bernier, and his wife, Karen, of Riverside, and Army retired Lieutenant Colonel Karen Hutchins of Steilacoom, WA; her brother, Marshall Ford of Belmont, NH; and her sister, Susan Ford Iadevaia.

Her graveside service will be held Monday, May 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Wrentham Rd., Bellingham, MA. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Health, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
