Joan P. Chase

FRANKLIN – Joan P. Chase, 87, passed away Friday in Countryside Health Care of Milford. She was the beloved wife of the late Howard J. Chase.

Born in Bell Island, Newfoundland, Canada, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Helen M. (Parsons) Kennedy. She resided in Franklin for the past three and one-half years, previously residing in Cumberland.

She was employed as a secretary and a C.N.A. at the former Diamond Hill Nursing Home, Cumberland for many years, and was also a volunteer at Mt. St. Rita Health Center. She and her late husband were also very active at all of the many events held yearly at the LaSalette Shrine in Attleboro. Christmas was her favorite time of year; however she and her late husband enjoyed dancing, which included the "Lindy" the precursor to the Jitterbug. She also enjoyed her family and precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gardening, Knitting, CNN and politics were some of her favorite pastimes along with her Red Sox and romantic music from the likes of Johnny Mathis and many others. She was a communicant of St. John Vianney Church and a Eucharistic Minister for many years.

Joan leaves three daughters, Vicki A. Chase and Katherine M. Chase. both of Franklin, and Lisa J. Giguere and her husband Michael of Georgetown, Texas. Also surviving are four siblings; Marilyn Cumings of Strathroy, Ontario, Bette Kennedy of Toronto, brothers Llewlyn and Gerry Kennedy both of Vancouver, British Columbia. Three grandchildren; Adam Witkowski, Allyson and husband Jevens Strachan and Caitlin and husband LaRue Medlin; four great grandchildren, Camden and Brody Witkowski and Will and Sofia Strachan.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Joan's Life Celebration, to be held Tuesday, Jan. 8, with calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland and continue on Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. in St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
