John D. Sawyer

1946 - 2016

BLACKSTONE - John D. Sawyer, 70, of Blackstone, MA, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Landmark Medical Center after being stricken at home. He is the beloved husband for 46 years of Therese L. (Pelland) Sawyer. Born in Framingham, MA on October 9, 1946, he is the son of the late Ernest and Rita (Smith) Sawyer. He is the loving father of Dawn P. Carlson and her husband, Robert of Gilford, NH, Tricia J. Sawyer of Blackstone, MA, and Tracey J. Mastandreau and her husband, Pablo of Attleboro, MA. He leaves his cherished granddaughter Chloe Shea of Blackstone, MA.
A resident of Blackstone since 1973, formerly of Bellingham where he was raised and attended school. John worked at BJ's Warehouse in Uxbridge for several years until retiring in 2009 and previously at the Foxboro Company for many years.
John was a United States Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the M-14 Rifle Marksmanship Badge. He was an active member of the Blackstone VFW Post 498.
John was a member of the Uxbridge Rod & Gun Club. He was an avid marksman and enjoyed being outdoors. Devoted to his family, John will be greatly missed.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 15th at 2:00PM at CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA. Visiting hours are from 12:00 to 2:00PM prior to service. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of John D. Sawyer to: New England Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court Street, Boston, MA 02108, would be appreciated.
