Josette V. Berger

1936 - 2021

WOONSOCKET - Josette V. (Dunford) Berger of Woonsocket, RI died February 21, 2021, just shy of her 85th birthday, in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence RI surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born in Freshwater, Isle of Wight, England on February 24, 1936. She was the daughter of the late George Williams and Maud Alice (Dugdale) Dunford. She was predeceased by her brother, Michael Dunford.

At the age of 26 years old, Josette came to the United States in 1962 along with her beloved dog Tiger. On May 4, 1963, she married the love of her life, the late Allan H. Berger and together raised three children. They celebrated 42 years of marriage before his passing in 2005.

Josette dedicated her life to being a devoted wife to Allan and a wonderfully supportive mother to her daughters and grandchildren. She was an active participant of the Slatersville Congregational Church where she taught Sunday school for 25 years. Later in life, she worked part-time at Ye Olde English Fish and Chips in Woonsocket, RI.

She was a lifelong animal lover who also enjoyed sweets, ice cream, sunshine, gardening, quilting, sewing, and caring for her grandchildren.

She leaves her daughters Lindsay Berger of Cumberland, Jillian Berger of Woonsocket, and Josette Burgess of Woonsocket; two grandchildren Victoria and Jameson Burgess as well as her sister Sheila Poole of Woonsocket, and several nieces and nephews.

In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.

Private funeral services were held under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket.
