Joy West

NAPERVILLE, IL - Joy West, of Naperville and long time Rhode Island resident, passed away suddenly from natural causes April 29, 2017. Joy was the loving mother of Barry West, Tammy (Jim) Mullen, and the late William F. West IV. Former wife of William F. West III. Cherished daughter of the late Della and Claude Gideon. Fond grandmother of Patrick and Ryan Mullen. Dear sister of Joesph Gideon of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jim Gideon of Springdale, Arkansas, and the late Claude, Edna, and Jerry Gideon. Beloved NaNa of Michael and David Albert of South Attleboro, Massachusetts.
Joy was an incredibly strong and resilient woman who loved her family very much. As a mother, she was selfless and sacrificed all for her children. She grew up in Oklahoma, where she met her ex-husband and moved to his birthplace, Rhode Island, where she spent the majority of her life.
Joy worked at the East Side Checker Club, in Pawtucket, RI, for 45 years as one of the world's greatest waitresses. Throughout those years, Joy made countless life-long friends. In 2012, Joy moved to Illinois to be close to Tammy's family in Naperville and Barry in nearby Batavia.
In Illinois, Joy enjoyed starting her day with coffee and a crossword puzzle. She could frequently be found sitting at the kitchen table with a good book. She was a huge help to the Mullen household, loved to play cards with her family and enjoyed her monthly card game with girlfriends.
Joy loved to end her day with an episode of Law and Order and glass of red wine. Joy was loved by many and will be greatly missed. We take comfort in knowing she did not suffer and is now in the hands of our loving Jesus.
Friends and family to gather Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11AM for a celebration of Joy's life at Community Christian Church, 1635 Emerson Lane, Naperville, IL. A luncheon will be provided following the service. An additional celebration of Joy's life to be held Friday, May 12, 2017 at 6PM at J Gray's Family Tavern, 405 Mendon Road, Cumberland, RI 02864. Hors d'oeuvres will be served while friends and family are encouraged to share their favorite memories of Joy. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joy's name to either the Lisa Rego Horne Memorial Foundation, 24 Donald Potter Dr., West Greenwich, RI 02817 or A.D.O.P.T.
