Lois Bertini Obituary

Lois Diane Bertini

(1939-2025)

PAWTUCKET - Lois Diane (Higgins) Bertini - May 2, 1939 - September 20, 2025, of Pawtucket, RI, died peacefully surrounded by family. She lived in Pawtucket for over 60 years and Monument Beach, MA for more than 30. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was known for her kindness and generosity.

Daughter of Willard and Ruth (Bischoff) Higgins, Lois was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Richard Bertini, her parents, and sister Carole (Higgins) Scott. She is survived by children Lori Rolfe (Steven), Jena McNulty (Michael), and Richard Bertini Jr. (Kimberly); grandchildren Heather Daly (Matthew), Eric Pinault (Julia), Michael McNulty Jr., Jonathan McNulty (Sarah), Jacqueline Loffredo (Michael); ten great-grandchildren; nephews John Croslin, Gary Scott, and niece Diane Roske.

Educated in Warwick Public Schools, she graduated from RIH School of Nursing with the Inez Clark Lord Scholarship and later earned a BS in Social & Health Services from Roger Williams University. She left nursing to raise her family, remaining active in community life.

Lois was a devoted member of Pawtucket Congregational Church UCC for 40+ years, serving in the choir, on the Board of Deacons, Missions, Governors, and as a delegate to the UCC Conference, General Synod, and World Ministry. She supported the RI-UCC Haiti Task Force, helping build a clinic and school, and joined the USUSSR Bridges for Peace program delivering medical aid after Chernobyl.

Deeply committed to service, Lois was a founder and original board member of the Childrens Museum of RI. She also served on the boards of the Pawtucket Early Childhood Learning Center, the RI Red Cross (as instructor as well), the Weeden Manor for the Elderly, and the Advisory Committee for Social & Health Services at Roger Williams University. She was artistic, often expressing it through interior design. The spaces she touched were warm and beautiful.

Family and friends were always her greatest joy. She will be profoundly missed.

A memorial service and collation will be held at Swan Point Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025 at noon. Ashes will be scattered privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders or HopeHealth Hospice of RI.

Spent many days with Dick, Lois and family through the years. From having Dr. Bertini set my broken ankle for me and having him fix my wife's broken leg after a motorcycle accident and then years later they became our extended family through Pawtucket Congregational. We served on many committees and attended many events having enjoyed each others company. We are sad to hear of Lois's passing and offer the family our sincere condolences to you. We thank you for the blessings and memories that Lois and Dick shared with us, and we will never forget their Love, Kindness, Dedication, and Commitment to all they shared their lives with. May Lois rest in Dick's arms and rest in eternal peace.
With deepest sympathy and condolences,
Walter & Renee Ducharme

Lois was kind and caring. She was an inspiration and enjoyed worshipping and working with her at Pawtucket Congregation. Also appreciated her support for Chapel Street Church after the merger.

Lori, your mom was a trailblazer. I remember her having all of us in Girl Scouts over to do craft projects and she was so enormously kind and creative. I am sorry for your loss and my memories of her will always remain close to my upbringing in Pawtucket.

To the entire Bertini family, I extend my deepest condolences at the passing of Lois. I only met Lois a time or two, but she was such an elegant woman. I truly believe that she and her beloved husband are together again. May Lois rest in eternal peace and may perpetual light shine upon her.

With sympathy,
Anne Louise Paolilli

She and Dick were dear friends to me and my husband Leo. We travelled together to Belarus, a mission group she organized, to Spain, Alaska, the Dominican Republic, Nova Scotia and much more. She will be sorely missed.
