Marjorie Rose Obituary

WOONSOCKET - Marjorie E. (Bedford) Rose, 91, of Woonsocket, died Sunday, February 7, 2016, in St. Antoine Residence, No. Smithfield after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Lloyd E. Rose, whom she married on November 15, 1946. Born in Woonsocket, and a lifelong area resident, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Helen (Walsh) Bedford.
A graduate of Woonsocket High School, Marjorie was employed as a bookkeeper for most of her career. Early on, she worked at U.S. Rubber, and after her marriage, besides raising her four children, held bookkeeping jobs in a physician's office, and worked for the Esten Insurance Agency before she retired to travel with her husband. Before Lloyd's death, the couple took cruises to Alaska and elsewhere, spent time visiting Europe and Russia, and took winter vacations to Florida and the South, thoroughly enjoying all their adventures, as well as playing bridge. After Lloyd's death Marjorie kept up her bridge playing, learned to swim, and was a regular at the Woonsocket YMCA water aerobics. She was an avid cribbage player, and enjoyed belonging to an informal cribbage club. Along with several of her high-school women friends, Marjorie founded a club that met each month from high-school graduation until the women reached their late 80's. Her children fondly remember "The Club" meetings, when they had to stay out of the way and where great desserts were served. The Club was a big part of the fabric and fun of Marjie and Lloyd's life, as members attended each other's children's weddings and other important events, and got together as families regularly. It is rare to find a group of women who stay such close friends for so long. And laughed so much. Marjorie had a large group of friends, and a devoted circle of family, especially cousins, whose company she treasured.
Marjorie was a great cook, seamstress, artist, and lover of books and reading. She worked at North Smithfield library, and volunteered there up into her late 80's. It gave her great pleasure to be around books and those who liked them, and to do a service to her community. She loved and enjoyed her children and grandchildren, and she will be sorely missed.
Marjorie is survived by three sons: Kenneth Rose and his wife Janice of Scotia, NY, Lloyd Joseph Rose and his wife Lori of W. Stockbridge, MA and Douglas Rose of Stockbridge, MA; one daughter, Christine Rose and her husband John Coldewey of Seattle, WA; two granddaughters, Heather Rose-Glowacki and Katherine Rose-Ruel and three great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Frederick, Edward and William Bedford.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 8 AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St, Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Ave, Woonsocket. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a charitable contribution to American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839, or to the North Smithfield Public Library. www.holtfuneralhome.com

There are certain people we meet through our lives who's memory will stay with us, and Marjie is one of those people. I still her standing in her spot in the aerobic room and in the pool. She couldn't go too deep or we would loose her. I've missed not seeing her, but she will always be remembered.

Joey, as soon as I saw this photo, I knew it had to be your mom, your resemblance was so strong. I didn't know your mom, but she was obviously a wonderful woman, who I'm sure left you with many happy memories. I am so sorry for your loss.

It was many years ago that I visited the Rose home often to be with my good friend Christine(50 yrs ago and more to be exact). We were both only girls with lots of brothers. Mrs. Rose was always a gracious hostess when I was there. I have fond memories of her.
I moved away from N Smithfield at 13, and lost touch. I would have liked to have visited her at the library if I had known she was there. Christine and I were avid readers as children, competing in making book reports...
Please accept my condolences with many fond memories of the Rose family.
