Michael Morin Obituary

Michael F. Morin, Sr., of Woonsocket, died July 22, 2021 at The Holiday Retirement Home in Manville. He was the beloved husband of Theresa (Blanchard) Morin to whom he was married to for 64 years. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Michael M. Morin and Evelyn (Benjamin) Melsbach.
Along with his wife, Theresa, he is survived by his son, Russell Morin and his wife, Lori, of Woonsocket; four daughters, Linda Malec of Woonsocket, Cathy George and her husband, Thomas, of Woonsocket, Cindy Morin of Blackstone, and Pauline Frechette and her husband, Normand Jalette, of Woonsocket; a brother, Leonard Melsbach and his wife, Ruth, of South Carolina a daughter-in-law, Marie Ann Morin of Cumberland; sixteen grandchildren; and thirty great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Michael Morin, Jr., and the late Mark Morin; and the brother of the late Patricia Keegan, Marie Branche, and Michelle St. Pierre. He also had an "adopted" son, Armand Tetreault, who loved him like a father. He leaves many nieces and nephews. Michael adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Morin was a Navy Veteran and a retired foreman at General Motors. He loved fishing, and his fishing buddies were like family to him. He was a member of the Blackstone Valley Bass Masters Fishing Club. His fishing skills and legendary catches were featured many times in Bill Bodner's articles. As a result of all of the fishing stories about him, former Mayor Susan Menard officially declared a Mike Morin Day in Woonsocket and presented him with a special award.
He was a fantastic bowler, and loved playing softball and baseball. In his younger days, he was offered a spot at the Naval Academy to play baseball, but he turned it down and put family first. He loved the Red Sox and the Patriots. He even forgave Tom Brady and rooted for him during the last Super Bowl.
He loved fishing (passed down from his father), bowling, and riding motorcycles with his wife. He passed down those passions to his children and their children and their children. Nicknames for his grandchildren all tied to his love for fishing. A couple of those nicknames were "Pepe's Pollywog, and "The Keeper". Matthew, his grandson, followed his grandfather and has become an amazing bowler.
Michael was a member of Blackstone Valley Baptist Church, and he lived by Matthew 4:19. He was known throughout the city as "The Piscator;" the Fisher of Men.
The last year and a half of his life, he lived at the Holiday Retirement Home. He often spoke highly about how well he was taken care of by everyone who attended to him.
His funeral will be held Friday, July 30, 2021 at 8:45 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895, with a service at 10 AM at Blackstone Valley Baptist Church, 40 Pine Swamp Rd., Cumberland. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 PM.
