Ossin Rowey

WOONSOCKET - Ossin Rowey, 94, of Woonsocket, RI passed away on September 21, 2018, at the Friendly Home in Woonsocket. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph M. Rowey. She was born in Syria, a daughter of the late James & Nabiha (Mona) Azar.
She was a graduate of Central Falls High School and Our Lady of Fatima/St. Joseph Hospital before becoming an operating room nurse. She completed the Lab Assistant program at CCRI and was licensed as a Lab Technician. Ossin worked for the former Woonsocket & Fogarty Memorial Hospitals, also a technician for the Histology department for Roger Williams Hospital In Providence. Her last employment was for the Woonsocket School Department as an Audiovisual technician for 10 years, retiring in 1986. Ossin volunteered for the Leam Adult & Family Literacy Program, Project Linus providing blankets for children at Hasbro Hospital Cancer Unit, RI reads program in the Woonsocket schools that tutors children in reading skills and Project Operation Warm Head Hats for Newborns for Women & Infants Hospital. She also spearheaded the present Joseph M. and Ossin Rowey Scholarship Fund.
She is survived by her son Dr. Joseph L. Rowey and his wife Linda, two granddaughters Lisa A. Foss and Dr. Meghan E. Rowey Her siblings Raymond and James Azar, Mary Goyette, Lena Dame and Rose Mary Canavan. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Louis and Dennis Azar and Lillian Solomon.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 10am in St. Basil the Great Church in Lincoln, RI. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Wednesday evening from 4-7pm in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Basil the Great Building Fund, 15 Skyview Drive Lincoln RI 02865. Arrangements are entrusted to the Egidio DiPardo & Sons Funeral Home, 75 Harris Ave., Woonsocket.
