NORTH SMITHFIELD - Peter Ruo, 90, of North Smithfield, died November 18, 2018 at Oakland Grove Health Care Center, Woonsocket with his family by his side. He had been receiving dialysis for 11 years. He was the husband of Constance R. (Falardeau) Ruo whom he married April 11, 1948. Born in Woonsocket he was the son of the late Frank, Sr., and Rose (Enangela) Ruo.
Peter was an aircraft mechanic for the United States Marine Corps and served in WWII. He went on to be the cook and head chef at the former Beverly Club in Bellingham MA where he worked for 18 years. He later went on to work as a cook for the State of Rhode Island at the ACI for 20 years before retiring in 1998. After retirement he volunteered his time helping prepare meals at the Because He Lives soup kitchen ministry in Woonsocket for many years. Peter and Connie traveled a great deal during the 1980's through 2007 and enjoyed ballroom dancing for over thirty five years. He also enjoyed reading war novels, golfing and being with his family.
Besides his wife, Constance, he is survived their two children, Rick Ruo of Nashua, NH and Gary Ruo and his wife Denise, of Coventry; one sister, Lucy Cuicci of Woonsocket; three grandchildren, Angela Wong of Lowell, MA, Lori Ryan of Voorheesville, NY and Brian Rascona of East Northport, NY and two great-grandchildren, Maya Wong and Paisley Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Rascona, five brothers Angelo, Marte, George, Michael and Frank Ruo, Jr., and one sister Michelina Palmeri.
His funeral will be held November 26, 2018 at 9 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 S. Main St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Holy Trinity (formally OLQM), 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Wrentham Road, Bellingham, MA. Calling hours are Sunday from 3- 6 PM in the funeral home.
