Robert A. "Calso" Calascibetta

MANVILLE - Robert Angelo "Calso" Calascibetta, 69, formerly of Woonsocket, passed away Wednesday, March 14,
2018 at home surrounded by his family. Robert was the son of the late Angelo and Anita (Bilodeau) Calascibetta.
Bob grew up in Woonsocket where he excelled in sports and later earned a football scholarship to Boston University. B.U. hit the jackpot when it came to Calso. He was a team captain, played multiple offensive positions and was named as the All Conference running back. He was later invited to various professional training camps but declined in order to finish his degree at Boston University.
After receiving his teaching degree, he went back to where it all began and became a physical education teacher at Woonsocket High School. Always looking to do more and not content with just helping his students during school he began coaching as a way to support his students after school. He coached girls' basketball, tennis, and football. He quickly became well known for his sideline antics and his "passionate" coaching style. He was inducted into the Woonsocket Hall of Fame in 2009.
After 28 years at Woonsocket High School, he spent the next three years of his career as the Vice Principal at West Warwick High School where he continued guiding and pushing all who were lucky enough to cross his path. He retired from education in 2001 to become an avid golf fan and the best grandpa anyone could ask for.
He is survived by the love of his life Stephanie Karas and his children Brian Calascibetta and his wife Karen, Alicia Blake and her husband Joseph, Morgan Karas and her husband Collin McCullum, and Zachary Karas and his wife Anna. One brother, Tommy Calascibetta and his wife Nancy. His memory will also live on through his 6 grandchildren; Riley and Hayden Karas, Cherylind McCollum, Brianna Calascibetta, Cameron Cash Blake, and Leyla Karas.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 9 AM from the S.DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home 1583 Diamond Hill Rd., Woonsocket, RI 02895 with a Mass Of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Anthony's Church 128 Greene St., Woonsocket. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery Farm St., Blackstone, MA . Relatives and friends are invited; Calling hours are on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-9 PM.
