Robert E. Carlson

MENDON - Robert E. Carlson, 73, of Mendon, died Sunday, May 15, 2016 in his home. He was the husband of Susan A. (McCutcheon) Carlson, whom he married May 27, 1967. Born in Worcester, MA, he was the son of the late Ruth E. (Desautell) Fitzgerald.
Robert was a 1962 graduate of South High School, Worcester. He served in the Army National Guard for 22 years, retiring in 1984. Robert was later a groundskeeper for 20 years at Bryant University, retiring in 2004. He was as a member of the American Legion Post #355, Mendon, and the Waushakum Live Steamers, Holliston, as well as Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad. Bob was serving on the board of the Council on Aging, Mendon, the Taft Library Board of Trustees, Mendon, and the board of directors for the Access Bellingham-Mendon, Inc. He had previously served on the boards for the Mendon Parks Department, the Mendon Board of Health, and Mendon Water Commission. He was an auxiliary policeman from 1970-1979 and was an Assistant Scout Master. Bob was a train enthusiast.
Besides his wife, Susan, he leaves their children, Eric H. Carlson and his wife Katherine of Mendon, Jeffrey A. Carlson and his wife Jan Gould of Readfield, ME, Jennifer S. Carlson and her husband Todd Tusia of Upton, and Kevin R. Carlson and his fiance, Tim Harrigan of Providence, RI and their grandchildren, Brett, Joseph, Beckett and Silas Carlson.
His funeral will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 beginning with visitation at 9 AM in Slatersville Congregational Church, On the Common, Slatersville, followed by a service at 11 AM. Military Honors will follow on the Common. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket.
