Robert LaMountain Obituary

STERLING, MA - Robert Henry LaMountain, 80, formerly of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully at his home in Sterling on Friday, February 19, 2016. By his side were his son, Michael, his daughter-in-law Sarah, and granddaughters Lilly and Jenny. Bob's wish to remain in the home he cherished surrounded by those he loved was fulfilled. He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline (Heroux) LaMountain until her death in 2012. Bob was married to the love of his life and soulmate for 56 years. He was born in Pawtucket, the second eldest son of the late George J. and Mildred (Atchison) LaMountain whom he loved dearly.
Bob spent the majority of his career employed at Thompson Chemical Plant and was there when the plant exploded in 1964. He went on to work for Teknor Apex and eventually retired in 1996 from Handy and Harman of Attleboro, where he was a well respected foreman. In the 1970's, he attended Johnson and Wales University to further his education.
Bob's first love was his family. He cherished every moment spent with them. He also enjoyed bowling throughout his lifetime. He began playing with his brothers in the 1950's on their own duckpin team called "The Jazzy 5". In later years, he was an IBA member and played in their monthly tournaments and also participated in a weekly league in East Providence. He loved fishing, baseball, and dancing in his youth. Bob also took great joy in watching the Red Sox and Patriots games. In his later years, he particularly enjoyed doing this with his son, Michael. After Bob retired, he spent a great deal of his free time working on home projects with Michael. He helped him to clear the house lot and eventually build his home in Sterling. Michael was his father's helper growing up. Later in life, Bob became Michael's right hand man on all his projects.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving actively from 1954 to 1958. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and served on the U.S.S. Barton. Later, he served his country in the Navy reserves until 1962. During his years of service he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
He leaves his son and best friend Michael, his daughter-in-law Sarah, and his granddaughter Lilly LaMountain of Sterling, MA with whom he lived and were his caregivers in his final years, a daughter Jeanne and her husband Robert Gravel of Rehoboth, and sons Robert LaMountain and Stephen LaMountain, both of Pawtucket; five brothers, Russell LaMountain of Pawtucket, Edward and his wife Maureen LaMountain of Cumberland and Melbourne, FL, William and his wife Charlene LaMountain of Cumberland, Everett and his wife Jackie LaMountain of Pawtucket and Apollo Beach, FL, Joseph and his wife Debbie LaMountain of Pawtucket and Melbourne, FL, a sister Edith Agin of Pawtucket; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Bob was the brother of the late Emily Gove and Mary Beauchamp. He also had many fond memories of his times with his brother in law, Herve Heroux and his wife Muriel.
His funeral will be held from the Darlington Mortuary of L. Heroux & Son, 1042 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket, on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Church of St. Leo the Great, St. John Paul II Parish, (St. Cecilia's is closed due to renovations until March) 697 Central Avenue, Pawtucket, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, 359 Daggett Avenue, Pawtucket.
