Rev Robert T. McDade M.SS.CC.

LINWOOD, NJ - Rev. Robert T. McDade, M.SS.CC. 73, of the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Linwood, died November 4, 2017 at Atlantic Care Medical Center. Father McDade was born in Pawtucket, RI, son of the late Robert and Julia (Heffernan) McDade. He received a B.A. From St. Mary's College, Winona, MN in 1969 and received an M.R.E in 1975 and M. Div. in 1977 from Mt. St. Alphonsus Seminary in Esopus, New York. He was perpetually professed in 1976 and ordained to the priesthood on July 18, 1976 by Aux. Bishop James L. Schad. After ordination he was appointed by the Missionaries as Vocation and Formation director at Villa Pieta, Linwood and as Director of Religious Education, Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Linwood. He then served as Dean of Men, Holy Apostles Seminary, Cromwell, CT from 1983 to 1984. He was named Pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Linwood from 1984-1991. In 1993 he was appointed Associate Pastor, St. Mary's Church, Fairfield, PA which is staffed by the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts.
Father returned to Linwood in 1997 and became Chaplain at Our Lady's Residence in Pleasantville, and began working with Covenant House in Atlantic City, where he held the position of Pastoral Minister from 1999 until 2004. Due to health problems, he retired in 2008. For many years Father was a Chaplain to Serra Club and Knights of Columbus in the Linwood area as well as the Knights of Columbus in Waynesboro, PA.
Father McDade is pre-deceased by parents and his brother, Daniel. He is survived by his sister, Margaret (Robert) Santos, his brother Thomas (Carol) McDade and sister, Brenda (Gilbert) Arundale.
A viewing will be held from 9:00-10:00am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am on Thursday, November 9th, 2017 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Wabash and Poplar Avenues, Linwood. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. Arrangements by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, Linwood - Ventnor.
