CUMBERLAND - Roger C. Milette, 86, of Mendon Rd. passed away Tuesday in the Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Doris A. (Desmarais) Milette.
Born in Blackstone he was the son of the late Herve T. and Beatrice (Desmarais) Milette. He resided in Woonsocket for 32 years before moving to Cumberland in 1961.
A graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy in 1945, Mr. Milette was a certified manufacturing engineer, a life member in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was a member of the former Cumberland Business Association.
He was a co-owner, CEO and President of Comtorgage Corp. in No. Smithfield for 5 years retiring in 1988. He previously worked B.C. Ames Co. of Waltham and the Taft Pierce Mfg. Co. in Woonsocket.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, served as Sergeant-first Class with the 118th Combat Engineer Battalion of the 43rd Infantry Division. After the war he continued his service as a member of the R.I. Army National Guard for 14 years retiring with the rank of Captain.
He enjoyed public service, among his many accomplishments were his election as Delegate to the R.I. Constitutional Convention representing District 68 1985. He was also appointed to the Cumberland Charter Review Commission in 1993 and also spent many years on the Cumberland Budget Board.
A lover of music he always kept a close relationship with local dance groups. He was an avid dancer especially to line and ballroom dances.
Roger leaves one son, Wayne of Lincoln, three daughters; Michelle Wilkinson and her husband Kenneth of Riverside, CA; Joyce Morin of Douglas, MA and Debra Anne of Norman, OK. Also surviving is a brother, Robert Milette of Woonsocket and 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was also the father of the late Roger C. Milette Jr. and Caroline Milette. His brother was the late Normand Milette.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rte. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in All Saints Church, Rathbun St., Woonsocket. Burial with military honors in St. Jean The Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham will follow. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
