She also leaves behind her beloved best-friend of 80 years, Doris Langelier and her husband, Arthur.
Born on the family farm in Hardwick, Vermont, on June 30, 1928, she was proudly one of 16 children born to the late Ulric and Florida (Lapointe) Briere. She also lived in East Blackstone, MA and Cumberland, RI before settling in Manville with her husband, Joseph, to raise their family. She attended schools in Hardwick, VT and Blackstone, MA. She was briefly employed but was mainly a homemaker for the majority of her adult life. She and Joseph were married 31 years until his unexpected passing. After his passing, she found love a second time with Adrien. They shared 10 years until his passing in 1990.
She was a loving, giving and incredibly strong role-model for her whole family. She was truly a beautiful person, inside and out. She was a true friend. She possessed an undeniable inner-strength. She loved listening to Country music, doing Word-Search puzzles, playing board games and cards, watching game-shows, scratch tickets and faithfully trying her luck with local lotteries, snacking on maple-walnut ice-cream and maple-leaf cookies, but most of all, enjoyed being a Mom and a Memere. She also loved animals and nature and found caring for stray and feral cats very rewarding. Nurturing, loving and sharing came easily and naturally to her. Always generous, she was happily willing to assist those in need. She regularly donated to several charities worldwide. She eagerly gave of her time and baking talents to assist with annual St. James Church events. She was most well-known for her homemade banana bread, marguerites, apple cake, brownies, peanut butter fudge and soup made from scratch.
She had a fun sense of humor and a beautiful smile. She was bilingual (French and English) and ambidextrous, using both left and right-hands to write. She was very proud of her French-Canadian heritage and of her immediate family as well as her very large extended family.
She enjoyed attending annual family reunions. Dignity and manners were very important to her as she made sure she and her children were always neat, presentable and polite.
She was a faithful communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Manville, RI, until her illness prevented her from attending Masses. During the latter part of her illness, she was lovingly and compassionately cared for by many 'Angels in disguise' at the Oakland Grove Health Care Center in Woonsocket, RI. We whole-heartedly thank each and every one of her many caregivers...she loved them all like family...Truly a Blessing.
Her funeral services will be held on Monday, December 21, at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 71 Central Street, Manville, RI, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. James Catholic Church, Division Street, Manville. She will be laid to rest in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Calling hours are Sunday, December 20, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oakland Grove Health Care Center, 560 Cumberland Hill Road, Woonsocket, RI 02838. www.menardfuneralhome.com
