Walter Holubesko

1926 - 2015

SANDWICH, MA - Walter Holubesko passed away quietly surrounded by his loving family at the Hope Hospice, located in Sandwich, MA. He was predeceased by his wife Louise of 66 years last October.
We are sure Louise was there to take his hand and guide him to the other side.
He was born February 9, 1926 to Louis and Antonia (Ziemba) Holubesko in Manville, Rhode Island. He was a Navy veteran serving his country during WWII. He was an accomplished athlete playing baseball with the likes of Mr. Clem Labine. Early in his career he boxed, and was trained by renowned Mr. Pete Luthus. He was also an avid golfer. However, his greatest joy in life was to watch all his grandsons excel in baseball, soccer and wrestling. Walter was a people person. His favorite position was as a bartender at the Cocke-n-Kettle restaurant in Uxbridge, MA, The St James Hotel in Woonsocket, RI, and The 1620 in Plymouth, MA.
He leaves behind his three children, Linda Gilbert, son-in-law Frank Gilbert, Steven Holubesko and wife Judy, Paula Thorpe and husband Bob. Grandchildren Adam Gilbert, Hollie O'Brien and husband Sean, Scott Holubesko, Mike Holubesko and wife Emily, Matt Holubesko and Sydney, Ryan Thorpe and wife Sarah, Cory Thorpe and Sarah, and great grandchildren Aidan, Emily, and Nolan Ryan. As well as many nieces and nephews.
He is survived by sisters, Stacia Waskiewicz, Sophie Mei, Phyllis Huizenga and LouiseWarszawski. He was the brother of the late Frank Holubesko, Joseph Holubesko, Stephanie Bissonnette, Mary Shackleton and Caroline Peloquin.
Walter's voice was silenced after a stroke 40 years ago. His wit and sense of humor was still always evident. He was always smiling and had a devilish twinkle in his blue eyes. For the last 2 years he was lovingly cared for at the Bourne Manor, and we thank them. He could be seen rolling his wheelchair up and down the halls always positive and smiling. His last days were spent at the Hope Hospice where John and Joe lovingly kept him comfortable. His family thanks them for their sensitivity and care. We thank you Dad, for by your example you taught us to NEVER GIVE UP.
At Louise and Walter's request, a funeral mass is scheduled to celebrate both their lives at St. Ambrose Parish, 191 School Street, Albion, R.I. on Saturday June 13, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements under the direction of Nickerson~Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA.
