Walter Scibak Obituary

CUMBERLAND - Walter J. Scibak, 93, formerly of Merida Avenue in Woonsocket, died Saturday, July 23, 2016, in Brookdale Manor with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Theresa (Langlois) Scibak.

Born in Blackstone, son of the late Wasyl and Ursula (Szewczyk) Scibak, Walter was a United States World War II Army veteran, serving in the Battle of the Bulge, obtaining the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He worked as a foreman for L.F. Fales for several years, then in the machine shop at Electric Boat until he retired in 1985.

Walter enjoyed going to the casino with friends and spending time with family, most recently with his new great-grandson.
He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and a New England Patriots fan. He was a former member of the St. Joseph Senior Group, the St. Joseph Veterans Association, and the Cranston Senior Center.

He is survived by his two sons, John and his wife Patricia Scibak of South Hadley, Mass., and Ronald and his wife Judith Scibak of Cranston; three grandchildren, Sarah, Peter and Alexzander; and one great-grandson, Harrison.

He was the brother of the late Mary Gilbert, Bridget Kylba and Genevieve Korzenowski.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket, RI 02895, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Mendon Road, Woonsocket. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone. Relatives and friends are invited; calling hours are on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations to Founders Affiliate of American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.

Our deepest sympathies to all of the Scibak family and friends. We are so glad we had the chance to meet and spend time with Walter this spring. Like so many WWII veterans, he was a modest and proud man. We owe him an eternal debt of gratitude for his unselfish service to our country.
