Clayton Paul Bethuy

ROCKFORD, IL – Clayton Paul "Papa Clay" Bethuy, age 72, of Rockford and formerly of Santa Rosa, CA changed his address to Heaven on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Born in Reno, NV on February 4, 1953 to Walton Potter & Florence Bethuy (Gray). He worked 35 years as a proud Union Grocer for UFCW and retired in 2005. A devoted and faithful Christian, the Lord was always number one in Clay's life. He served as chaplain for several years at River Bluff Nursing Home, along with his beloved wife, ministering to residents at numerous Assisted Living and Nursing Homes in the Rockford area. An avid San Francisco 49ers fan, Clay enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing pool, good tunes, bowling, sneaking in a round of golf or two and spending time spoiling his grandchildren. Beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle and dear friend; he will remain forever in our hearts. He is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Dana L. Bethuy (Moore); extended children, Danielle (Mike) Baker, Dan (Starrett) Elvin and Daniel "Danny" (Catherine) Slye; numerous grandchildren and extended grandchildren; sister-in-law, Julia Archuleta-Diles; nieces; Stephanie (late Aaron) Bethuy-Harmon, Cindi Beamenderfer, Melinda (Louis Velasquez) Stewart and Julia (Nord) Sardia; nephews, Joe Irvine, John Hurley and Jeff Williams; great niece, Sami Beamenderfer; best friend for over 56 years and brother in Christ: Stan (Donna) Bent; and beloved pet & "human in a dog suit", Willow. He is predeceased by his siblings, Steven Potter Bethuy, JoEllen Bethuy-Hurley and Linda Bethuy-Stewart; and his parents. Celebration of Life Memorial to be held Friday, August 22, 2025 at 6:00 pm at the Christenson Funeral Home, 925 3rd Avenue, Rockford, with visitation from 4:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm.
