Doris Whitledge Obituary
Doris Ann Whitledge, 95, of Beloit, WI, passed away peacefully in her home on June 4, 2025. She was born on September 15, 1929 in Centerville, IA, the daughter of Theodore and Gladys (Shanahan) Anderson. Doris graduated as salutatorian, in a class of 800 students, from Rockford East High School in 1947. After high school graduation, she received a scholarship to attend Carthage College, located then in Carthage, Ill. She married Leslie Howard (Bud) Whitledge on June 30, 1950 in Belvidere, IL. Later she received her BS degree from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Doris was a highly intellectual and independent person, advocating for womens interests. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She also wrote the Badger Council of Girl Scouts newsletter for three years with portions of it being published in Stateline-area newspapers. Later, she enjoyed working with delinquent girls at the First Light Girls Group Home. Doris was formerly employed by the Beloit Corporation for 20 years and was proud to have worked a portion of that time as the first female supervisor of a union department. Afterwards, she worked several years as a tax preparer and teacher/trainer for H & R Block, retiring at age 89.Doris enjoyed reading books and newspapers, doing crossword puzzles, and playing Scrabble with her sons weekly. Doris and her husband Bud had great pleasure taking the annual three-to-four week-long family camping trips throughout the United States. They both also loved hosting the many extended family musical get-togethers and various other home parties. Doris was a former Stateline Literacy volunteer and a long-time member of Redeemer Evangelical Covenant Church. Doris was pre-deceased by her husband Leslie Howard (Bud) Whitledge, children Leslie T. Whitledge, Sue (Whitledge) Hart, and Benjie Whitledge and her brother Robert (Dorothy) Anderson. Survivors include daughter Nora (Gary) Gard, son Howard (Jan) Whitledge and son Tom Whitledge all of Beloit, eight grandchildren; Rob (Buffy) Gard of Oregon, WI; Nikki (Chris) Kitto of Beloit, WI; Jeff (Christy) Gard of Ankeny, IA; Steve (Amy) Hart of De Pere, WI; Dan Whitledge of Beloit; Greg (Brooke) Gard of Madison, WI; April Whitledge of Beloit; and Kristen (Joshua) Tillotson of Beloit. Survivors also include 10 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews and very good friend, Nancy Appleby. The family appreciates the visits and greeting cards from Pastor Chris Carlson and the Redeemer Covenant Church members. The family is also grateful for the professional and compassionate care provided by Beloit Regional Hospice and Palliative Care staff, and independent CNA, Rita Dominquez.Funeral Service for Doris will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2025 at Redeemer Evangelical Covenant Church, 2500 Prairie Avenue, Beloit, WI. Visitation and a time of fellowship will be from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Following the funeral service, burial will be in the Avon Cemetery.
