Douglas Rubey Obituary

Douglas E. Rubey, 89, of Loves Park, passed away on May 25, 2025. He arrived in this world on Labor Day, September 2, 1935 and left this world on 5-25-25 which is a palindrome and a rotational ambigram. He was born in Dixon, IL to Kenneth and Meriam (Smith) Rubey and after school he lived in Loves Park and Rockford. He was an inspector at Woodward Governor for 35 years and on weekends he did wedding photography. He also worked for H & R Block for 22 years in semi-retirement. He enjoyed trapshooting, old cars and trains, bowling and playing pranks on family and friends. He passed on the day of the Indy 500 which was his favorite race. He is survived by his children, Robert (MK), Suzanne and Mark (Lisa); grandchildren, Reed and Paige; sisters, Mary Rubey Kowing; step-sister, Marlene Mahlke; brother, Sidney (Denise) Rubey; many nephews and nieces; cousin, Al Killeen; two former wives, Kathryn Rubey and Audrey Gould Rubey; and friends Gaylord and Glyn who visited him at River Bluff Nursing Home. He is predeceased by his parents and step-brother, Jim Marr. Special thanks to the staff at River Bluff Nursing Home for their care of Doug. There are no services planned per his wishes.
