John Curtiss Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Edwin Curtiss, a dedicated and compassionate man, who was born on May 14th, 1960, in Evanston, IL. John, as he was known by all, was a beacon of support and generosity to those around him. His radiant spirit, love for life, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will be remembered forever.
John devoted much of his career to serving others as a Financial Service Representative, working tirelessly to make a difference for his clients. After a long and accomplished career, John retired from Prudential in Myrtle Beach, SC in 2022, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and dedication. John was not only an accomplished leader in his field, but also a special needs planner, a recognition of his compassionate nature and desire to help others. His contributions were recognized on various occasions, including being a member of the Million Dollar Round Table and the Accomplished Leaders Conference many times.
John was a man of many interests, always finding joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid golfer, a passionate fan of the Cubs and Bears, listening to music, playing his harmonica, and loved to travel. John loved reading and spending quality time with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren. His fraternity, Sigma Chi, was a testament to his supportive and generous nature. Above all, John's greatest pride and joy was his family - the foundation of his life and the source of his greatest happiness. His faithful dog, King, was never far from his side.
John leaves behind a loving family: his wife, Susan Curtiss; son, Jimmy (Mercedes) Curtiss; daughter, Elizabeth Curtiss; stepchildren Mike (Lynessa) Dombeck, Brian (Natasha) Dombeck, Ashley (Nick) Dombeck; sister, Karen (Bob) Kujawski; and beloved grandchildren, Hadilee, Aubrey, Brody, Kaiden, Cash, Cole, Braxton, Jaxson, Riley, and Avery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Susan and Isaac Curtiss JR; daughter, Angela Curtiss; and brother, Isaac Curtiss III.
John's life was a reflection of the quote: "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
He gave love, joy, and inspiration to all who knew him, and his memory will forever remain a beacon of dedication, generosity, and compassion.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. with a Memorial Ceremony to follow at 1:00 p.m. in McCorkle Funeral Home -Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, IL with Pastor Luke Uran officiating. Cremation Rites to be Accorded.
