John Varnes Obituary

John Howard Varnes, 62, passed away at the UW Hospital on August 11, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born on August 26, 1962, to Joynelle J. Skinner (Varnes) and James K. Varnes, in Reedsburg WI. He was preceded in death by his father James Varnes, and his sister Rebecca Lovell. He spent his childhood years in Janesville and Edgerton WI. John especially enjoyed fishing and hiking with his many beloved dog companions throughout his life. He traveled to and lived in Athens Greece periodically, where he had many great friends. He continually worked doing various roofing and construction jobs. John co-owned the Broadway Motel in Wisconsin Dells WI for 14 years until 2019. John will be very fondly remembered as a strong, loving kind friend and family member who enjoyed life to the fullest. He appreciated and was grateful for all life's blessings. John is survived by his mother Joynelle Skinner, his sisters Joylin (Linnie) Varnes, JenAnn (Annie) Varnes, his brother Jeffrey Varnes, 6 nieces, 1 nephew, Aunts, Uncles and cousins. A grave site service will be held at a later date.
