Robert Hansen Obituary

Robert "Bob" Emmett Hansen, 81, of Rockton, Illinois, formerly of Beloit, Wisconsin, passed away at Highview in the Woodlands in Rockton, Illinois on Friday, August 22, 2025. Bob was born in Beloit, Wisconsin on Monday, May 8, 1944, the son of Mathew John and Winifred Joan (Doyle) Hansen. On June 4, 1966, Bob married the former Marlene Carol McCallips at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Durand, Illinois. In 1962, Bob graduated from Beloit Catholic High School. Following high school Bob furthered his education by graduating from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin and Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois. After graduation from mortuary college Bob served his apprenticeship and continued working for several years at Burpee-Wood Funeral Home in Rockford, Illinois. In 1974, Bob and Marlene moved to Beloit and purchased Hansen Funeral Home from Bob's parents. Bob owned and operated the funeral home for 33 years until retiring in 2007. Bob was a life-long member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Beloit. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, The Elks Club, and Kiwanis Club all in Beloit. Bob and Marlene enjoyed spending summers on lake Delavan, traveling, and being with their families and friends. After retiring Bob and Marlene spent several winters at The Villages in Florida. Bob will be remembered and missed for kindness and generosity. He truly was a man who would help anyone in need of assistance. Bob is survived by his wife, Marlene Hansen; siblings: Richard David "Dick" (David Eckert) Hansen, and Susan "Sue" Young; brothers-in-law, LaVern (Donna) McCallips, Mike (Nancy) McCallips, and Sam (Kelly) McCallips; sisters-in-law, Angela Hansen. and Sheila (Jim) Pokrant; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathleen "Kathy" Hansen; brothers, Mathew "Matt" Hansen, Jr., Jerome "Jerry" Hansen, and Brian "Tank" Hansen; and a brother-in-law, John Young. Visitation is 10:00 a.m. followed by a mass of christian burial at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 822 East Grand Avenue, Beloit, Wisconsin 53511. Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home, 424 Prospect Street, Beloit, Wisconsin 53511 is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers donation can be given to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church or to a charity of one's choosing.
