Sean Mahnke Obituary
Sean M. Mahnke, 34, on July 18, 2025 at 9:58am, Sean was called home by his father, surrounded by his loved ones at Swedish American. Sean was born on November 19, 1990 to parents, Kathryn and Richard Sr. Sean attended Haskell Year-Round Academy, followed by Lincoln Middle School, and graduating Cum Laude from East High School in 2009. Sean attended Quincy University, in Quincy, IL, graduating in 2014 with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice. After college, Sean was employed by Cadbury-Adams, now Perfetti, for 10 years operating machinery. He always had a severe mint scent on him most days of the week. Sean handled the gum base and hoppers.
Sean was known for his many hobbies and interests; his main loves were comic books and wrestling. Sean had a passion for collecting all things pop culture (POP figures, wrestling shirts, foreign language items and trading cards). Sean was an avid movie watcher, kept tabs on all the Marvel and Pixar movies. He collected Steelbook Blu-rays, ranging from fantasy-horror, and had pipe dreams of owning a comic book store. Sean will always be remembered for his simple nature and routines, whether it was his weekly visits to Clyde's Comic and Fantasy Shop and chats with owner and friend, Neil Robertson, or his meticulous bookkeeping, or wearing wrestling shirts paired with his ratty green Converse shoes.
Sean was a self-confessed mama's boy; the bond they shared was beautiful and most of the time was pleasant. But Sean's favorite things to do was to travel around the stateline with Zach and exploring new cities and ice cream locations or spoiling his niece to pieces. Most of the ice cream trips crossed lines and lead to discovering new things. Sean had a special bond with his niece, Lucy, who affectionately called him "Unky Sean". Sean lived a more bachelor lifestyle, which meant he could focus his fatherly instincts and spoil her with anything and everything. They blended so well spiritually that she was Sean's whole world.
Sean leaves behind many cousins and friends; mom, Kathryn; brother, Richard, Jr.; best friend, Zach Bastian; and his niece, Lucy. Sean is preceded in death by his father, Richard, Sr.; Uncle Wheet; Pappa and Mamma; and paternal grandmother, Cytella.
Funeral service will be at 4:00pm with a visitation from 2:00pm to the time of the service on Saturday, August 2, 2025 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, IL 61111.
