Betty Jane Gum

ROSEDALE - Betty Jane Gum, 77, of Rosedale, Indiana passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute. She was a retired schoolteacher having taught at Bridgeton, and Cornerstone Christian Academy in Brazil. She was born September 10, 1947, in Clinton, Indiana to the late Cecil Rightsell and Marie Mosteller Rightsell. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Fred H. Gum, whom she married June 29, 1969, in Rosedale. Also surviving, two sons, Jeff (Christy) Gum of Terre Haute and Brad (Brandy) Gum of Rosedale; two granddaughters, Madison and Lily Gum. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. She was a graduate of Van Buren High School and received her master's degree from Indiana State University. After high school she worked for Mallory Timers in Rockville where she met her husband. She was a member of Brazil First Christian Church and was the scheduler for the Welcome Center for many years, along with being a member of the FBI Sunday School class. She enjoyed crafts, scrapbooking, and Diamond Dotz. She took great pride in the appearance of her lawn and flowers. Services will be 11:00 am Friday, August 29, at Brazil First Christian Church, 1875 US-40, Brazil, Indiana with Pastor Chris Gregg officiating. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Thursday, August 28, at Brazil First Christian Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cornerstone Christian Academy in her memory.
