Carolyn Richardson Obituary

Carolyn A. Stonebraker Richardson, 81, of Rockville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, following a brief illness. Born at home in Rockville on February 12, 1944, Carolyn was the daughter of Marion E. and Helen L. McCoy Stonebraker. She graduated from Mecca High School and spent her early years working in restaurants around Rockville, where she was known for her strong work ethic and kind spirit. On February 4, 1966, Carolyn married Charles B. Richardson in Danville, Indiana. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. Carolyn and Charlie were blessed with three children: Julie (Randy) Mendenhall of Huger, South Carolina; Debra Carter of Terre Haute, Indiana; and Kevin Richardson of Rockville, Indiana. Carolyn was a proud grandmother to Dustin (Catherine) Mendenhall of Enfield, Connecticut; Andrew (Dawn) Mendenhall of Summerville, South Carolina; and Lennell Eloise Dillard of Terre Haute, Indiana. Her great-grandchildren-Ashlyn, Hunter, Connor, Andrew, Charles, Christian, Breann, and Zalena-brought her endless joy. Her loyal dog Muffin was a constant companion and comfort. She is survived by her beloved older sister and lifelong protector, Lois Hines of Clinton, Indiana, as well as many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Charles; her parents; her brother Marion "Bud" Stonebraker; her son-in-law Lyman Carter; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law. For many years, Carolyn worked at the Raccoon Lake Camp Store, where she was a familiar and friendly face to campers and visitors alike. She loved camping, going to sales, caring for her animals, and playing Skip-Bo. In recent years, she found joy and companionship spending time with friends at Cora's Place. Carolyn will be remembered for her gentle nature, her unwavering love for her family, and her ability to find happiness in life's simple pleasures. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Cremation has been chosen with inurnment at Memory Garden Cemetery.
