Donald Stalcup Obituary
Donald Dean "Chick" Stalcup, 90, of Worthington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Owen Valley Health Campus in Spencer. Born on June 11, 1935, in Linton, Indiana, to Rex and Moleta (McKee) Stalcup, Chick grew up with a love of hard work, laughter, and a story always ready to share.
He was a proud 1952 graduate of Switz City Central High School. He worked as a master mechanic with Peabody Coal Mine until retirement, then continued doing what he loved - keeping busy - at Wells Tire Shop and loved farming alongside his good friend Wally Flynn.
Chick was happiest when surrounded by people. Whether swapping stories at the American Legion and VFW while playing pull tabs, cutting a rug on the dance floor, or heading into the woods to hunt mushrooms or deer, he found joy in simple pleasures and good company. He loved his faithful dog, Jax, who was rarely far from his side.
A member of the Worthington VFW and American Legion Posts, Chick also belonged to the Bloomfield (Worthington) Masonic Lodge, the Greene County Shrine Club, and the Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute. His commitment to his community and the friendships he built along the way will be fondly remembered.
He is survived by his children, William "Bill" Stalcup (Gene Ramsey), Lisa Beatty (Jason Chesnut), Vicki James (Alan Thatcher), Robert Stalcup; Amy Wilson, and Brooke Nash; nineteen grandchildren, Chasity Stalcup, Chad Stalcup, Donnie Stalcup, Jr., Desiree Stalcup, Stevie Stalcup, Kaylee Page, Remington Beatty, Piper Beatty, Rachelle Lechien (Trey), Kent Quakenbush (Jordan Ford), Dennis Stalcup, Amira Stalcup, Justin Wilson, AJ Bowers (Alisha), Maddison Fielder (Brent), Shelby Lynn Nash, Jacklyn Witty (Drew), Brock Alan Nash, and Riley Padgett, and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents; his wife, Sheila K. (Reed) Stalcup; an infant son, Rex Clifford Stalcup; a son, Donald R. Stalcup; two grandchildren, Rheannon Stalcup and Robert Blaine Smith; two great-grandchildren; twin brother, Ronald Stalcup; brother, David Stalcup; and two sons-in-law, Rod Beatty and Danny Wilson.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home of Walton Funeral Service in Worthington. Burial will follow at Worthington Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 - 6:00 PM, with Masonic Service at 6 PM, and again on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
