Michael Abernathy Obituary

CLINTON – Michael Joe Abernathy, 65, of Clinton, Indiana passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton. He was born May 31, 1960, in Crawfordsville, Indiana to Dennis Abernathy and Audrey Eaton Abernathy. Survivors include his parents of Rosedale; two sisters, Annette (Wayne) Loomis of Rosedale and Denise (Craig) Hinshaw of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews and one special niece, Ashley Organ of Rosedale; and his sister-in-law, Valerie Abernathy of Florida. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Bill and Virginia Eaton and Carl and Florence Abernathy, and his brother Mark Abernathy. He was a decorated participant of the Special Olympics, bringing home many medals throughout the years. He also sat behind the wheel of an Indy 500 car, met American radio and television sportscaster Harry Caray and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan who could strike up a chorus of "Take Me Out to The Ball Game" on a bus full of strangers. He enjoyed bowling and most of all working on puzzles with his beloved mom. Private graveside services will be held at Rosedale Cemetery, with Pastor Jacob Guinn officiating. Burial will follow. Memorials should friends so desire, may be made to Special Olympics 6200 Technology Drive, Suite 105, Indianapolis, IN 46278 in his memory. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home, Rosedale. Online condolences may be shared at goochfuneralhome.com.
