Suellen Lewis Obituary
Suellen Lewis, age 74, of Oblong, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 10:45 p.m., surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on November 6, 1950, in Oblong, Illinois, the daughter of Lloyd "Pepsi" Pete Spaugh and Retha (Smith) Spaugh. A proud graduate of Oblong High School, Class of 1968, Suellen later pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Lincoln Trail College and became a Registered Nurse.
On January 5, 1979, Suellen married John Lewis at the Wesleyan Church in Oblong, beginning a loving marriage of 46 years. Together, they raised two sons and a daughter, building a home filled with love, laughter, and family traditions.
Suellen's career was as dedicated as her heart. She worked in the payroll department at Victor Dana until choosing to stay home to raise her children. Later, she returned to school to pursue nursing, joining Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. She eventually left her position to lovingly care for her father during his illness. Following his passing, Suellen continued her nursing career at Crawford Memorial Hospital in long-term care until her own health challenges required her to step back.
Her greatest joy in life was being "Grandma." She cherished every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking delight in spoiling them, celebrating their milestones, and filling their lives with love. Suellen enjoyed game shows, coloring by numbers on her iPad, camping, cheering for NASCAR and the Indianapolis Colts, and tending to her yard and landscaping with care.
Suellen is survived by her husband, John Lewis of Oblong; two sons, Mark (Andy) Goff and Matt (Julie) Goff; daughter, Jennifer (Jason) Atteberry; grandchildren Kelby Goff, Skyler (Sara) Goff, Zack (Ellen) Dery, Kristen Dery, Josie (Adam Zuber) Goff, Emma Goff, Brielle Goff, Austin Goff, Colin Goff, Trayton Tragessser, and Sierra Sanders; and great-grandchildren Michael Goff, Beau Zuber, Briar Zuber, and Aden Goff. She also leaves behind her sisters, Debbie (Dave) Earlewine and Colleen (Rey) Becker; her brother, Jay Spaugh; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Linda Parker.
Honoring Suellen's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A private family Celebration of Life will be held on September 13, 2025, with inurnment to follow in Hardinville Cemetery, Hardinville, Illinois.
