Barbara Allen Young Rappe Obituary
Okolona-A dear soul who endeared herself to her family, her church and her community in her 81-year earthly pilgrimage, Barbara Allen Young Rappe, transformed to her heavenly reward from Shearer-Richardson Memorial Nursing Home in Okolona on Thursday evening, Oct. 9, 2025, at 7 pm. Barbara was 81. Born in Okolona on July 13, 1944, to the late Glenn Allen Young and Kathryn Williams Young, she lived most of her life in Chickasaw County except for a few years in St. Petersburg, Fla. and Oak Ridge, Tn. while in her adolescent years. She graduated from Okolona High School in 1962 and married James Freeman Rappe on Jan. 3, 1964. A lifelong lover of flowers, she went to Floral Design School and worked in the old Okolona Funeral Home flower shop. Barbara was industrious, always engaged and had a servant's heart. She worked other jobs including secretarial services to Rosehill Furniture Mfg. and Comfort Furniture and assistant manager of Bill's Dollar Store. She will be best remembered as a master cook working in several restaurants and quick stops cooking up the finest dishes to everyone's delight. She was a longtime member of Okolona Christian Church before becoming a devoted and faithful member of Faith Outreach Church. Barbara's hobbies included gardening, cooking, raising grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who all loved their Mamaw. Barbara was a gentle spirit who led a life of service and faith and now is in the arms of her Savior, is reunited with Freeman and all her loved ones who preceded her in death.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 4 PM Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025 at Faith Outreach Church with her pastor, Jimmy Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Boone's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 PM Sunday at the Church and continue until service time. Holland Funeral Directors-Okolona is honored to be serving their friends.
Survivors include her sister, Glynda Gadow; three children, Kim Yarborough (Mike) of Sulligent, Al, Jimmy Rappe (Diane) of Okolona and Missy Aldridge (Andrew) of Amory; her grandchildren, Stephine Harrelson (James), Anthony Rea (Alisha), Heather Bagwell (Jake), Paige Leeth (Hunter), Jase Aldridge (Abby), Peyton Aldridge (Maddie) and Logan Yarbrough; great grandchildren, Gabby Moore (Conner), Elizabeth Mears (Taylor), Fisher Leeth, Brayleigh Leeth, Karter Bagwell, Kinsley Pannell and Navi Aldridge; great-great grandchildren, Riley Brown, Hudson Moore and Mav Moore; a brother in law, Don Gadow; a special niece, Gayle George (Larry). She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Freeman, a nephew, Donnie Gadow.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Anthony, Jase, Peyton, Jake, Hunter and son in law Andrew. Honorary pallbearers will be Karter, Fisher and Riley and the men of Faith Outreach Church.
