Wren/Okolona-On October 4, 1943, Danny Hugh Buskirk, Sr. was born in Pontocola to the late Victor Vincent Buskirk and Bertha Leona Bryant Buskirk. He married the love of his life, Jackie Davis Buskirk on May 03, 1962 in the Okolona Christian Church. At approximately 6:20 AM Monday, March 30, Danny made his final roundup in his earthly pilgrimage of 82 years, 5 months and 26 days surrounded by his family who were the world to him-on his farm which he loved. Danny Buskirk, Sr. led a life of faith in God, strong devotion to his family and as a great steward of his farm and livestock. While he worked several trades over his life, including helping his wife with her Child Care business for almost thirty years, his great love was cattle farming, and managing his livestock which included cattle, over 80 horses at one time and his pigs and chickens. His cowboy boots and cowboy hat fit his personality and presence to the tee for he was always a real cowboy. Born with a principled work ethic, Mr. Danny loved roaming his pastures, working the land, staying busy and productive. God's creation was a great part of who he was and hunting was special. He was a great southern storyteller, often embellishing his tales to sheer perfection. He was a great friend to many, a consummate husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and loved bragging on his family everywhere he went. He and Mrs. Jackie were longtime members of the First Baptist Church-Okolona.
A service celebrating his life will take place at 11 AM Wednesday, April 1, 2026 in the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Rev. Dr. Roy McHenry officiating and Pastor Wayne Clegg speaking. Burial will follow in East Chickasaw Memorial Gardens in Okolona. Visitation will be from 5 PM-7PM today (3/31/26) and from 10 AM-service time Wednesday, all at Holland-Okolona Chapel, which is honored to be serving their friends.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jackie Davis Buskirk, to whom he married at Okolona Christian Church on May 03, 1962; his son, Danny Buskirk, Jr. (Kym); his daughters, Candy Boozer (Kenny) and Kimberly Felder (Bill); his grandchildren, Tuesday Jones (Jeffrey), Stormie Downey (Todd), Trey Buskirk (Shelby), Laura Rakestraw (Justin), Will Buskirk (fiancé, Bayleigh) and Regan Felder; his great grandchildren, Harper Downey, Mary Henley Downey, Jack Harrison Downey and Grace Buskirk; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
