David Gillentine Obituary

SALTILLO - David Van Gillentine, III died Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at his residence in Saltillo. He was 77 years old. After receiving his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Mississippi, he moved to Jackson, MS to attend the Jackson School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor Degree in 1973. While attending law school, he taught school and worked as a real estate agent. After law school, he continued his career as a real estate broker, appraiser, developer, and investor. He later became a Petroleum Landman and performed title research for oil companies. In 1983, he began his law practice and continued the practice until 2000, when, once again he began work as a Petroleum Landman. Eventually, he managed family properties. He was a longtime member of Northminster Baptist Church in Jackson and recently rejoined First United Methodist Church of Tupelo, the church in which he was raised. David enjoyed cooking and loved playing music (bass guitar and drums). His unique wit and pleasant nature were evidenced by his jokes, stories and his writings of songs and poetry. David was my next door neighbor in 1971-1975 at Parkview Arms Apts on Lakeland drive. He roomed with Davis Smith. Both were in Law school and worked. They were both wonderful men, full of life. They were wise and help me out of a few scrapes along the way. Davis handled the adoption of our first child.

I´m sorry I did not stay in touch with them. They were truly a blessing to me in my very young life.
May God bring comfort to David´s family. I our daughter passed away in November. As I looked through Ms College Beacon magazine, I saw David´s name in the Memoriam along With our daughter, Jill Hall. It was hard to see their names. It makes it so real.
May God bring us comfort in the loss of those we hold so dearly!

David was a good man. We shared office space when he lived in Jackson, MS. Besides being friends we also played music together for several years.
I will miss David, who was like an older brother.
God bless David and his wonderful family.
