Don Schwalenberg Obituary

Don Schwalenberg, a cherished soul known for his wit and passion, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, in Tupelo, Mississippi. Born on June 1, 1950, in the small town of Vardaman, Don's journey through life was marked by his loving nature, his dedication to family, and his remarkable sense of humor. Don's early years in Vardaman laid the foundation for a life filled with love, laughter, and hard work. His career was a testament to his commitment and ambition, as he rose through the ranks to become the sales manager of Coca-Cola, and then esteemed president of sales for RC Cola in New Orleans. He served in this role with distinction until he became disabled, always expressing how much he loved his job and the people he worked alongside. Throughout his life, Don's interests were as diverse as they were engaging. He was an avid fan of Alabama football and NASCAR, taking great pleasure in the excitement and camaraderie of each game and race. Don also had a profound love for his old truck, which he enjoyed working on, often spending hours tinkering and perfecting it with the precision that characterized everything he did. Family was the cornerstone of Don's world. He is survived by his loving wife, Joy Pannell Schwalenberg; his son, Whitt Schwalenberg and wife Angie of Amory; his stepdaughter, Kim Beaty and significant other Tommy; his brother, Davy Schwalenberg and wife Roseanne of Winchester, VA; his adored grandchild, Madalyn Schwalenberg; his five step-grandchildren, Ashlee Thompson, Lynsey Skelton, Laken Sanders, Madison Stewart, and Gracie Stone; and his two step-great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Horner and Kingston Hughes. Don was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild in January. His familial bonds were a source of immense pride and joy. Preceding him in death were his parents, Grady and Ethel Yates Schwalenberg; his brother, Gary; his nephew, Ed Schwalenberg of Sour Lake, TX; his stepdaughter, Kerri Skelton of Holly Springs, MS; and his beloved furry companion, "Little Bit." Each of these individuals held a special place in Don's heart, and their memories continued to inspire him throughout his life. Those who knew Don will remember him as a loving husband, a proud grandfather, a loyal brother, and a trusted friend. His ability to light up a room with his humor was unmatched, and his passion for life was evident in everything he did. Don's legacy is one of love and laughter, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched. Services to honor his life will be on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 3:00pm with a visitation before from 1:00 until the start of the service. All will be at United Funeral Service. Burial will be at Popular Springs Cemetery in Houlka. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Don Schwalenberg, please visit our floral store.
