Eileen Kelly Obituary

Eileen Putland Kelly, age 79, departed this earthly world on Wednesday night, October 1, 2025, at the Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center, as she peacefully entered into her Heavenly Home with her family by her side. Per her request, Mrs. Kelly will be cremated, and although no service has been scheduled yet, her family asks that you continue to remember this precious lady. Her strong-willed spirit, unwavering independence, and devotion to family will forever live on in the countless lives she touched. Born on July 18, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Kelly was the daughter of the late Robert and Rita Palmer Putland. A proud graduate of Williamstown High School in New Jersey, she married the love of her life, John Kelly II, and together they raised three children before his untimely passing on May 2, 1983. Left a widow, she carried the weight of that loss with remarkable courage and determination, always making sure her children never went without. Mrs. Kelly embodied hard work and perseverance. She poured herself into providing for her family, often working multiple jobs to ensure their needs were met. Mornings found her at Walmart, afternoons at Advance Auto Parts, and evenings at the hospital in admissions-tirelessly pushing forward for the ones she loved most. She never complained, never asked for recognition; she simply did what needed to be done, showing her children and later grandchildren what it meant to be tough, resilient, and faithful. After retirement, Mrs. Kelly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and the quieter days but never lost her "can-do" attitude. She was known for her independence and for facing life's challenges head-on, never letting anything get the best of her. She found her greatest joy in her family-especially as a grandmother. Her grandchildren will always remember her wisdom, her encouragement, and her comforting presence, often shared over her famous cup of hot English tea. Mrs. Kelly's story is one of strength and love. Though she endured hardships that could have broken her, she instead became a living example of perseverance, courage, and faith. Her life was a testament to the power of determination, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her best. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." – 2 Timothy 4:7 Mrs. Kelly's legacy continues to live on through her two daughters, Christine Stacks (Roy), and Stephanie Roberts (C.W.), one son, John Kelly III (Janel), two sisters, Janice Thompson (Bill), and Edith Pontano, eight grandchildren, Kendall Kelly (Victoria), Sydney Kelly, Haley Stacks, Lindsey Roberts, Owen Roberts, Brayden Kelly, Harley Beasley, and Brooke Kelly, two great grandsons, Alex and Bennett Kelly, and two sister in laws, Debbie Williamson, and Diana Kelly, along with a host of cousins, family, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Kelly was also preceded in death by sister-in-law, Diane Demarco, and brother-in-law, Craig Kelly. The family requested that donations be directed to the Mecklenburg County Cancer Association, or the South Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
