James Calvin Blount

Saltillo – James Calvin Blount, 75, of Tupelo, went Home to the Father in the early hours of Tuesday, September 2, 2025. In July 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, the late Patti (Dunnam) Blount of Ripley. A proud graduate of Mississippi State University, James began his career teaching and coaching in Pontotoc and Starkville, where he became affectionately known as "Coach Blount." He later joined Lane Furniture, serving more than 20 years and retiring as Director of Purchasing. Following the Recession, he returned to his calling as a teacher and coach at Mooreville High School until his retirement in 2016.
