James Tramel Obituary

James Richard "Ricky" Tramel, a beloved son, brother, and community member, passed away on September 12, 2025, at the age of 77 in his sister's home, where he had been since his last of many strokes nearly two years ago. Born on May 2, 1948, in Bruce, Mississippi, James lived a life rich in purpose and generosity, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew him. James, lovingly known to friends and family as "Ricky," stood out as the only son amidst six devoted sisters. His early years were filled with adventures in the great outdoors, where he found joy in hunting and fishing-activities that fostered a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature. His passion for the land continued throughout his life, as he dedicated himself to serving his community through his landscaping service, transforming spaces and cherishing the connections he made with his neighbors. A devoted member of Mt. Comfort Baptist Church, Ricky embodied the spirit of service, always finding ways to lend a helping hand to those in need. Additionally, his commitment to brotherhood was seen in his membership in the Freemason Lodge #549, where he formed lasting bonds that enriched his life and the lives of others. Ricky is survived by his loving sisters, Dee Murphree of Pontotoc, MS, and Jean Taylor of Water Valley, MS, along with a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory and the countless joyful moments shared. Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Tramel, his mother, Burnie Clifton Tramel, and four sisters, Helen Pegues, Fran Murphree, Ann Jenkins, and Doris Harmon. In a final act of love, James will be laid to rest in a graveside service at Bruce Cemetery on September 16, 2025, at 5:00 PM, with Dr. Bobby Douglas officiating with Masonic rites following. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, honoring a remarkable life that was lived fully, with compassion and kindness. Jon Ferguson, Boyd Mann, Loyd Mann, Randy Mann, Kenny Neal, and Van Peden will serve as pallbearers In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ricky's honor to a Special Fund at Dog Lovers League, 135 Easley Ave., Bruce, MS 38915. Ricky will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered, his legacy of love and service echoing in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
