Jimmy Earl Coggins

Jimmy Earl Coggins, 79, of Saltillo, Mississippi, passed away suddenly on May 15, 2025. Born on July 23, 1945 in Tupelo, MS, to Lunsford Earl and Mary Florence Price Coggins. His early academic achievements were notable-graduating from Tupelo High School at just 15 and earning a bachelor's degree from Memphis State University (now University of Memphis). He furthered his education with a master's degree while teaching in Georgia, showcasing his dedication to both children and learning. After 35 years of teaching, he retired and moved back home. Uncle Jimmy, as he was affectionally known, had a life long passion for raising and showing Arabian horses, in which he excelled, earning multiple medals. Until his death, his daily routine began and ended with taking care of his horses. He was also a dedicated and devoted member of West Main Church of Christ in Tupelo. He was survived by his sisters, Betty Bethay, of Tupelo and Carolyn Adams of Mineola, TX; two nieces, Kim Sanders (Tim) of Guntown and Cindy Robinson (Dave) of Tyler, TX; two nephews, Brian Leathers (Kim) of Tupelo and Matt Adams (Susan) of Dallas, TX; great-nieces and great-nephews - Mandi Cofer, Merri Underwood, Mallory Billings, Chris Robinson, Hannah Adams, Emma Rae Leathers and Turner Leathers. Funeral services will be held at Waters Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2025 @ 1:00 p. m. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lunsford Earl and Mary Florence Price Coggins. Visitation will be at Waters Funeral Home, Saturday from noon until service time at 1:00 p.m, with Doug Greenway officiating.
