Julia Loftin Obituary

Julia (Judy) Maddox Loftin died September 15, 2025. She was born June 14, 1932, the daughter of the late Richard Harrison and Bettie Baldwin Maddox of Raleigh, MS. She was a graduate of Raleigh High School. She married Thomas Loftin in 1951. She was known as mama to her children Richard and Kaye, grandmama to her grandchildren Stephanie and Bradley, and Juju to her grandson Abraham and her great-grandchildren, whom she adored, Andrew, Lillianna, and Trent. After moving to Starkville in 1965, she worked at Mississippi State University (MSU) as secretary to the dean of admissions and then transferred to the Mississippi state chemical laboratory at MSU as secretary to the state chemist. She retired from MSU in 1984. Judy was active in MSU Women's club, M'lady garden club, past worthy matron of the Eastern Star, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), secretary to the state NARFE president, and an active member of Starkville First United Methodist Church where she was a member of circle Martha. She enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family, sewing, traveling, and being outside as much as possible. Judy was known for her Christmas collections, hummingbird watching, and antiquing. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years, Thomas, her grandson Abraham Boggs, her parents, three sisters and her brother. She is survived by her son Richard Loftin (Durenda) of North Augusta, SC, daughter Kaye Boggs (Jan) of Meridian, MS, grandchildren Stephanie Loftin Hudlow of North Augusta, SC and Bradley Loftin of Knoxville, TN, great-grandchildren Andrew Hudlow, Lillianna Miller-Loftin, and Trent Loftin, a sister, and many nieces, nephews and their families. A private memorial service will be held at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Starkville First United Methodist Church, 200 Lampkin Street, Starkville, MS 39759, or a charity of choice. The family would especially like to thank Jan Jackson for her love, 'time, dedication, and support.
